Pierce Brosnan:

Die Another Day (Special Edition)
ASIN: B00008V2VP
Our Price: $55.99

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Sexy, Funny & Spectacular...Bond is Back!
Comments: After 40 years and 20 films, you would think the James Bond franchise would be a tired one. Far from it. In "Die Another Day", her majesty's finest regains his killer touch. Sexy, funny and spectacular, this is one of the best of the series - not simply a great Bond movie, but a great Action movie.
The opening titles - the usual dancing girls, intercut with the movie's action - get the party started as the pace of the movie quickly moves along. Bond (the delicious Pierce Brosnan) is captured, tortured and sets out for revenge against North Korean renegade Zao (Rick Yune). He's soon facing off with Toby Stephens' sneering entrepreneur, foiling his plans for world domination all while romancing the mysterious Jinx (Halle Berry) and Miranda Frost.
The script smartly steals ideas from the Bond back catalogue, mastering all the elements which make the old school outings great: sly in-jokes, preposterous action, clumsy innuendo and 'classic' one-liners. It's a throwback which recalls the heights of both "Goldfinger" and "Live and Let Die", combining the cool of Connery with the playfulness of Moore, without ever descending into parody or campiness. It also reinstates the childish wow-factor at outrageous gadgets (an invisible car!) and terrific stunts (including an all-time great sword fight), blasting the veteran franchise into the 21st century.
Bond is back and better than ever! Highly recommended!

The Thomas Crown Affair
ASIN: 6305657939
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: To Steal or Not To Steal - Turn of A Century
Comments: The 1999 "high-tech" remake of The Thomas Crown affair is charged with unexpected and delectable bends and twists.. It definitely is entertaining and worth adding to your DVD or VHS collection. Pierce Brosnan shows us he can, actually, perform much better than in any of the three James Bond he did so far, but it is Renne Russo who steals the show ! Despite being a much different person in real life (which reminds us of Anne Parillaud in La Femme Nikita), she really lives her character. The story is captivating and John McTiernan, known for his strong action movies (Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October), does a good job directing it. Casting Faye Dunaway as Crown's therapist, and making repeated use of Michel Legrand's Oscar winning wonderful musical score Windmills of My Mind, of course, reminds us of the 1968 original "affair", and there is no way but to admit that Steve McQueen's performance is superior there, the chemistry between the two is much more intense, and there is more craft and subtlety in director's Norman Jewison's unfolding and revealing it to us. Watch and enjoy both "affairs": ! (rating - 1999: 7.0/10; 1968: 8.5/10).

The World Is Not Enough
ASIN: 6305784906
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: "World" is More Than Enough
Comments: From the opening speedboat chase on the river Thames, to a spectacular helicopter sequence, W.I.N.E. is in keeping w/ the tradition. Brosnan is in top form as 007, and the involvement of Dame Judi Dench as "M" into the storyline is creative. Although popular opinion declares Denise Richards as the worst Bond girl, it seems that she wasn't given a lot to work with. Marceau commands attention as the beautiful Elecktra King, the film's central character.
The movie is not without flaws. Carlise is a sympathetic villian but he's no 006 or Blofeld. Richard's Dr. Christmas Jones almost seems thrown in as a secondary character and juxtaposition to King(Marceau).
The story is solid and will require some attention to the first-time Bond veiwer (and if you are, where have you been for the last 38 years).
Finally, special thanks to returning Bond composer, David Arnold, for delivery a stunning soundtrack which is a wonderful fusion of modern techno and old-time John Barry (I'm listening to it as I'm writing this).
All in all, W.I.N.E. is a perfect addition to the ever-growing Bond series & with the current releases of Bond DVD's, I look forward to spinning this up in my player.

Tomorrow Never Dies
ASIN: 0792842731
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Tomorrow Never Dies:Special Edition DVD
Comments: I'm no die-hard fan of James Bond, but I thoroughly enjoyed and still enjoy watching the DVD Special Edition of Tomorrow Never Dies (TND). I'll refer to characters in my description. I thought that Mr. Stamper was a pretty mean, cool and formula looking tough guy (see some Jackie Chan films, you'll see a resemblance). I couldn't wait to see Elliot Carver go. Bond's female counterpart, Colonel Wai Lin was the best I've seen for a while (partial to the eastern style of attack). The motorcycle scene was the best! Also, I liked Sheryl Crow's song; she may be yesterday's top entertainer, but I still thought it fit in well. Finally, Pierce Brosnan showed compassion that is needed in Bond. One more thing, it's worth the money to get a home theater (big screen, stereo, dvd, etc) when watching a movie like this one. VHS doesn't cut it.

GoldenEye
ASIN: 0792842723
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The best Bond yet!
Comments: "GoldenEye" is a must-see action/adventure film that combines a legend with a great script, wonderful cast and a spectacular director. First, Piere Brosnan is a great Bond compared to the others and even gets 1st place on my list. He's great as 007! Sean Connery was excellent also. Roger Moore and Timothy Dutton were good, but not great. As you know, Pierce Brosnan ("The Lawnmower Man", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Dante's Peak", "The Thomas Crown Affair", "Grey Owl") plays the suave, secret 00 agent with a license to kill, James Bond. Bond is out to secure the "GoldenEye", a mass destruction weapon that wipes out anything with an electronic circuit. A Severnaya work station in Russia was already wiped out by this weapon after everybody being killed by Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen, "Celebrity", "Deep Rising", "Rounders", "The Faculty", and in the upcoming "Don't Say A Word") and General Ouromov who work for the double-crossing, evil-turned villain, agent 006, Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean, "Patriot Games", "Don't Say A Word") who wants to use the Goldeneye with the help of a Severnaya level 1 programmer, Boris Grishenko (Alan Cumming, TV's "God, The Devil and Bob", "Josie and the Pussycats","Eyes Wide Shut", "The Anniversary Party"). Bond, who gets help from a Severnaya level 2 programmer Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco)learns about the weapon and how it can be stopped. With lives and money at stake, Bond must rush to obtain the GoldenEye and must prevent it from being used to destroy electronic files. Joe Don Baker and Robbie Coltrane co-star. Martin Campbell directs a great cast into the new century of Bond films."GoldenEye" is truly the best Bond yet. Also, 'M' is now a lady and is played by Dame Judi Dench ("Mrs. Brown", "Chocolat").

The Fourth Protocol
ASIN: 6302816157
Our Price: $14.95

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The greatest spy movie of all time
Comments: This is the greatest spy thriller ever produced. Pierce Brosnan is the quintessential cold-blooded, mission-bound, Cold War era Soviet spy. And Michael Caine is superb as an exasperated, mid-level British intelligence agent, on a fast-track to burnout. There were some good supporting performances, but Brosnan and Caine carried the show; they were at the top of their game in this nailbiter. Had Brosnan not been under contract with the Remington Steele show at the time (before 007 went p.c.), and the Bond franchise got its wish, he would have been the greatest Bond, too - you can see it so clearly in this show. Frederick Forsythe wrote The Fourth Protocol, and it was excellent, and the movie followed it faithfully. This same textual fidelity served the industry and fans well with another of Forsythe's works, The Day of the Jackal (the original, not the remake with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere, which was trash). If you like well-conceived, well-written, and well-acted spy movies, this is it. Everything else is make-believe.

Live Wire (Unrated Edition)
ASIN: 6302631076
Our Price: $9.98

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Live Wire is HOT!
Comments: Pierce Brosnan plays a very human bomb squad expert who is on the track of an explosive substance thats undetectable. His charector is also dealing with a marital seperation. Some of the scenes in this movie are some of the sexiest on film!

The Tailor of Panama
ASIN: B00003CXWF
Our Price: $103.99

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: Old-fashioned spy pic is long on character, short on action
Comments: The Tailor of Panama is an old-fashioned thriller. It is high on character delineation, plot and well written, often witty dialog. It is low on action, which perhaps makes it a poor choice for those viewers who are addicted to the adrenaline rushes found in most current thrillers. For those who believe that adventure doesn't always have to be linked with action, it should make for a perfect evening's entertainment.
Pierce Brosnan plays Andy Osnard, an intelligence agent for the British government. Don't expect to see him reprise his James Bond character. Andy is a sleazy, devious, self-obsessed guy, and the actor obviously delights in this change of pace. Perhaps one day they should make a Bond movie in which Brosnan also play's the hero's evil twin. That would be fun.
Osnard has recently been caught having an embarrassing affair with someone's mistress in Spain. As punishment, the agency banishes him to Panama, where the Brits are keeping a close eye on the Panamanian government's controlling of the canal, that vital, strategic link between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Our spy soon is going over a list of locals who might be able to give him information on the dealings of officials there. He settles on Harry Pendel [Geoffrey Rush], an exclusive tailor who advertises himself as being of London and Panama City. What Osnard knows is that Harry has no London connection. The man is a convicted felon who learned his trade in a British prison. He's the perfect stool pigeon. He dresses all the important men in the city, and Osnard has the information that could destroy his career. Better yet, Harry's wife, Louisa [Jamie Lee Curtis], happens to be the top aide to the man in charge of running the canal. Harry becomes a reluctant spy. As Osnard puts increasing pressure on him, the poor guy attempts to satisfy him by given him false information. Osnard realizes this but quickly sees that he can use these false claims for his own benefit. Everyone becomes trapped in a potentially lethal game.
As in the best thrillers made twenty to thirty years ago, there is a lot of humor in The Tailor of Panama. Spying for a living is fertile ground for a few jokes because it is so contradictory. It is a profession in which deception is the primary tool for finding the truth. Brosnan, Rush and Curtis have a talent for comedy, and it's a pleasure watching them. it helps a great deal that the script provides them with some memorable lines to work with.
Appropriately, director John Boorman was a major director in the 70s and was at the helm of such memorable hits as Deliverance and Excalibur. A decade later, he tired of Hollywood and returned to his native England where he concentrated on small, independent films and on theater. The Tailor of Panama is his return to bigger projects, and it's a welcome return. His style hasn't changed much in the last thirty years, but that's okay. One of the great things about the movies is that they are made by all sorts of people with all sorts visions and points of views. There's something for everyone, and Tailor of Panama may be something for you.
