Die Another Day (Special Edition)
ASIN:B00008V2VP
Our Price: $55.99

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Sexy, Funny & Spectacular...Bond is Back!
Comments: After 40 years and 20 films, you would think the James Bond franchise would be a tired one. Far from it. In "Die Another Day", her majesty's finest regains his killer touch. Sexy, funny and spectacular, this is one of the best of the series - not simply a great Bond movie, but a great Action movie.
The opening titles - the usual dancing girls, intercut with the movie's action - get the party started as the pace of the movie quickly moves along. Bond (the delicious Pierce Brosnan) is captured, tortured and sets out for revenge against North Korean renegade Zao (Rick Yune). He's soon facing off with Toby Stephens' sneering entrepreneur, foiling his plans for world domination all while romancing the mysterious Jinx (Halle Berry) and Miranda Frost.
The script smartly steals ideas from the Bond back catalogue, mastering all the elements which make the old school outings great: sly in-jokes, preposterous action, clumsy innuendo and 'classic' one-liners. It's a throwback which recalls the heights of both "Goldfinger" and "Live and Let Die", combining the cool of Connery with the playfulness of Moore, without ever descending into parody or campiness. It also reinstates the childish wow-factor at outrageous gadgets (an invisible car!) and terrific stunts (including an all-time great sword fight), blasting the veteran franchise into the 21st century.
Bond is back and better than ever! Highly recommended!

GoldenEye
ASIN:0792842723
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: The best Bond yet!
Comments: "GoldenEye" is a must-see action/adventure film that combines a legend with a great script, wonderful cast and a spectacular director. First, Piere Brosnan is a great Bond compared to the others and even gets 1st place on my list. He's great as 007! Sean Connery was excellent also. Roger Moore and Timothy Dutton were good, but not great. As you know, Pierce Brosnan ("The Lawnmower Man", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Dante's Peak", "The Thomas Crown Affair", "Grey Owl") plays the suave, secret 00 agent with a license to kill, James Bond. Bond is out to secure the "GoldenEye", a mass destruction weapon that wipes out anything with an electronic circuit. A Severnaya work station in Russia was already wiped out by this weapon after everybody being killed by Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen, "Celebrity", "Deep Rising", "Rounders", "The Faculty", and in the upcoming "Don't Say A Word") and General Ouromov who work for the double-crossing, evil-turned villain, agent 006, Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean, "Patriot Games", "Don't Say A Word") who wants to use the Goldeneye with the help of a Severnaya level 1 programmer, Boris Grishenko (Alan Cumming, TV's "God, The Devil and Bob", "Josie and the Pussycats","Eyes Wide Shut", "The Anniversary Party"). Bond, who gets help from a Severnaya level 2 programmer Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco)learns about the weapon and how it can be stopped. With lives and money at stake, Bond must rush to obtain the GoldenEye and must prevent it from being used to destroy electronic files. Joe Don Baker and Robbie Coltrane co-star. Martin Campbell directs a great cast into the new century of Bond films."GoldenEye" is truly the best Bond yet. Also, 'M' is now a lady and is played by Dame Judi Dench ("Mrs. Brown", "Chocolat").

Tomorrow Never Dies

Summary: Tomorrow Never Dies:Special Edition DVD
Comments: I'm no die-hard fan of James Bond, but I thoroughly enjoyed and still enjoy watching the DVD Special Edition of Tomorrow Never Dies (TND). I'll refer to characters in my description. I thought that Mr. Stamper was a pretty mean, cool and formula looking tough guy (see some Jackie Chan films, you'll see a resemblance). I couldn't wait to see Elliot Carver go. Bond's female counterpart, Colonel Wai Lin was the best I've seen for a while (partial to the eastern style of attack). The motorcycle scene was the best! Also, I liked Sheryl Crow's song; she may be yesterday's top entertainer, but I still thought it fit in well. Finally, Pierce Brosnan showed compassion that is needed in Bond. One more thing, it's worth the money to get a home theater (big screen, stereo, dvd, etc) when watching a movie like this one. VHS doesn't cut it.

The World Is Not Enough
ASIN:6305784906
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: "World" is More Than Enough
Comments: From the opening speedboat chase on the river Thames, to a spectacular helicopter sequence, W.I.N.E. is in keeping w/ the tradition. Brosnan is in top form as 007, and the involvement of Dame Judi Dench as "M" into the storyline is creative. Although popular opinion declares Denise Richards as the worst Bond girl, it seems that she wasn't given a lot to work with. Marceau commands attention as the beautiful Elecktra King, the film's central character.
The movie is not without flaws. Carlise is a sympathetic villian but he's no 006 or Blofeld. Richard's Dr. Christmas Jones almost seems thrown in as a secondary character and juxtaposition to King(Marceau).
The story is solid and will require some attention to the first-time Bond veiwer (and if you are, where have you been for the last 38 years).
Finally, special thanks to returning Bond composer, David Arnold, for delivery a stunning soundtrack which is a wonderful fusion of modern techno and old-time John Barry (I'm listening to it as I'm writing this).
All in all, W.I.N.E. is a perfect addition to the ever-growing Bond series & with the current releases of Bond DVD's, I look forward to spinning this up in my player.

Diamonds are Forever
ASIN:630238060X
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Moore inside of Connery-not a bad thing
Comments: DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER may star Sean Connery but this movie has got the feel and style of the Roger Moores movies stamped on it. This is not terrible, but to some it is. In the film, after finally vanquishing his hated nemisis Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Bond (Connery-starting to look a little rough) is given the rather uninteristing assignment of looking into the world of smuggled diamonds. Anyone who comes close to the gems in question has been killed by an unsavory pair of killers. While posing as a smuggler, Bond meets up with lady smuggler Tiffany Case in Amsterdam, the two travel to Las Vegas to learn that a reculsive millionaire locked inside a hotel penthouse is stockpiling the diamonds, possibly in preperation for a world devastation plot.
Don't expect to see much of the spy procedures or layered detective style work from the previous Bond films. DIAMONDS goes straight for fun with a fist fight inside of an elevator, a car chase over sand dunes in the desert complete with atc's, cars and a moon buggy, another car chase through Las Vega's glittering streets, a chopsockey match with two amazons and a helicopter shoot out on an oil rig off the coast of Baja California. Sadly though some of the performances by the stars is not up to par with the fun. Charles Gray is too stuffy as Blofeld, Jill St. John is a little dim very self centered. and Norman Burton is just terrible as Felix. Connery on the other hand from his vacation from the role is a little more refreshed but his age is starting to show and Jimmy Dean is surprisingly good in his role. To sum it up DIAMONDS won't dot the record books for movie making in the series, but it is good fun.

Dr. No
ASIN:B0000068SI
Our Price: $14.95

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: James Bond Rules!
Comments: Before there was Pierce Brosnan in "Tomorrow Never Dies", before Roger Moore in "For Your Eyes Only", and before George Lazenby in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", everyone must remember that there was Sean Connery in the first installment of the 007 series, "Dr. No". And though I must admit that all the other James Bond movies were wonderful, "Dr. No" is still one of the top of my favorite Bond movie list. "Dr. No" begins in Jamaica, where an agent and his secretary are mysteriously killed. James Bond (Sean Connery) is sent to investigate. With the help of CIA agent Felix Leiter (Jack Lord) and a local fisherman Quarrel (John Kitzmiller). After encountering tarantulas, snipers, and in a car chase with a group of men, the trail finally leads up to Crab Key Island. While trying to stop the sinister Dr. No (Joseph Wiseman), Bond meets up with the beautiful Honey Ryder. Together, they try to stop Dr. No from destroying an American space ship.
There are many reasons why you would like this movie. First, you would immediately fall in love with the character of James Bond with the wonderful acting skills of Sean Connery. Also, besides the Felix Leiter in "For Your Eyes Only", Jack Lord's portrayal of him is I think the best of all. There is a reason why I gave only 4 stars for this movie. It's because maybe back in 1963, the action and suspense would have been really thrilling for people then, but now... after watching movies like "Matrix", "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", and the newer Bond movies with Pierce Brosnan, the action isn't that appealing. But that is the only reason I would give it 4 stars. But I'm telling you, if you're a fan of James Bond, don't ever miss the very first 007 movie, "Dr. No".

From Russia with Love
ASIN: 6303651461
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: From Russia With Fun!
Comments: FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE is without a doubt probably the best James Bond movie and is further proof that the earliar Bond movies are indeed superior to the later Bond movies that would sadly suffer from too many wild stunts and gimmick bloat. Great, believeable action scenes and a good spy story power this film instead of special effects. In this, his second outing James Bond (Sean Connery) is sent to Turkey to bring back a powerful Russian coding machine that England has been wanting for a long time. Unfortunatly the criminal group S.P.E.C.T.R.E. wants the coding machine too and have set up a plan to have Bond retrieve the device so that their agent, Donald Grant (Robert Shaw) can steal it from Bond and then kill him. S.P.E.C.T.R.E. hopes that these events with the stolen coding machine will end the Cold War between England and Russia. Connery definetly shows off his grit as Bond in the explosive, action filled finale of this film as he easily and takes on the dangers that are closing in around him as he gets closer to home, this movie was proof that he was the best Bond. If you want to see a great, classic action movie as well as see the kind of spy that James Bond used to be, see FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. It's terrific.

Goldfinger
ASIN:630365147X
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Bond Breaks Out To The Big Time In "Goldfinger"
Comments: "Goldfinger", released in 1964 is the third film of the James Bond series and like the two preceding film in the series, Goldfinger is based on Ian Fleming's novel of the same name. Sean Connery returns as James Bond and many of the players from the first two films reprise their roles including Bernard Lee as "M", Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny, and Desmond Llewelyn as "Q". Terence Young, however, does not return as the director in this outing, replaced by Guy Hamiltion.
The storyline of Goldfinger represents the first time (and the last time until "Live and Let Die") that a Bond film does not involve a scheme from the evil organization SPECTRE. Instead, it appears that Bond will be investigating what he terms a "simple smuggling matter". The crime is gold smuggling and the target is rich tycoon named Auric Goldfinger, a man Bond has had a previous and somewhat unpleasant encounter with. Bond begins to penetrate the world of Goldfinger and to uncover his smuggling methods, but he discovers that smuggling is but a sideline to Goldfinger for Bond discovers that Goldfinger is planning the greatest crime in history, to rob the gold vaults of Fort Knox! Captured, Bond must play a deadly game to foil Goldfinger's plans.
Goldfinger can be considered the first big budget Bond film and the production shows it off with shooting locations in Britain, Switzerland and, for the first time, America. Director Guy Hamilton gives Goldfinger a much broader, brassier feel than the earlier Bonds. Shirley Bassey sets the mood in the opening credits with her award winning redition of the "Goldfinger" theme song and the mood is continued with the film score.
Several other changes are made under Hamilton's watch. Bond's spy gadgets make their true debut in this film, topped off with the trademark Aston Martin loaded with a full array of weapons. The armorer Q's character is established fully for the first time, displaying his genius for developing the tools of spycraft and displaying his disdain for Bond and his antics. One unusual tradition began with Goldfinger when Bond's CIA contact Felix Leiter, played by Jack Lord in "Dr. No" was played instead by Cec Linder. From this point on (until "Licence To Kill"), no actor ever played Felix Leiter a second time.
Despite the changes, German actor Gert Frobe continued the tradition of ruthless, driven villians with his excellent potrayal of the title role and Harold Sakata played what was probably one of the ultimate evil henchmen of the movies, the silent and deadly Oddjob.
The cast, interesting enough, contains several actors from familiar British TV series. Shirley Eaton, who plays Goldfinger's girlfriend Jill Masterson, was a regular guest star on "The Saint" whose title role was played by a future Bond star named Roger Moore. Honor Blackman, who plays Goldfinger's personal pilot Pussy Galore (could you really get away saying that in a '60s movie?), was well known as Cathy Gale of "The Avengers" a series from which a number of its stars would appear in later Bond films.
The original Bond formula created by Terence Young and the new elements from Guy Hamiltion combined with a suspenseful plot, lots of action and a fine cast made Goldfinger the strongest Bond effort to date and the results paid off quite handsomely at the box office. Today's moviegoers will find Goldfinger rather dated when compared to today's Bond but if one wishes to see James Bond as he was at the height of his popularity in the 1960's, not to mention one of the best thrillers of that decade, this is the one Bond to own.

Never Say Never Again
ASIN:B000006FNX
Our Price: $14.95

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A unique James Bond movie
Comments: When Kevin McClory teamed up with the Eon company to make the movie Thunderball in 1965 he was contractually obliged not to exercise his rights to the James Bond character for ten years, Sure enough in 1975 McClory started pitching a 007 script titled Warhead to all the competing studios, but it wasn't until 1983 that Never Say Never Again actually made it to the silver screen opening opposite the lame Roger Moore vehicle Octopussy. Never Say Never Again (a title suggested by Sean Connery's wife) has on display a variation of the plot that McClory had produced almost 20 years earlier. There are slight differences and the look of the film bears a stark contrast to the EON produced series. Despite a rather slim plot, the movie does showcase one the best villains of any Bond movie with the brilliant Klaus Maria Brandeur hamming it up as the megalomaniacal Largo. In addition to his sterling performance and a (too short) appearance by Max Von Sydow as Blofeld, there is the delicious Barbara Carrera as the villainess, a role that allows her to frolic around in various stages of undress. Not to be outdone the movie also features an early performance by Kim Basinger as the "Bond girl" and her character seems to display more depth than either Maud Adams or Kristina Wayborn were able to convey in the rival EON movie of that year. After the movie was obtained by MGM-UA (the company that produces the EON production) there was talk among fans as to the possibility of the gun barrel sequence being added to make it part of the "canon", I for one do not think that this unique James Bond 007 movie should be tampered with in that manner and equally happy to see it emerge on DVD. I heartily recommend this movie

Thunderball
ASIN: 6303651488
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: CLASSIC BOND! CLASSIC CONNERY!
Comments: 1965's "Thunderball" roared across the movie scene only a year after the 1964 hit "Goldfinger". Some fans tend to believe that this is one of the weaker Connery outings as James Bond. In a sense it is true, the film just couldn't get any bigger than the colossol "Goldfinger" so in a way it is met as a slight disappointment after the 1964 007 adventure.
None the less Thunderball is one of the series most memorable with Tom Jones belting out the classic opening theme. The movie has classic Bond villians, neat gadgets and great settings. Emilio Largo, Fiona Volpe and Vargas are some of the best Bond villians ever!
The acting is very good in this film. Connery plays Bond wonderfully as usual. Adolfo Celi is notorious as the ruthless Emilio Largo. Philip Locke plays the strong silient type with the menacing Vargas. Lucianna Paluzzi plays the evil (but beautiful) Fiona Volpe. Claudine Auger plays a touching role as the innocent Domino Derval. Rik Van Nutter plays Felix Leiter and proves to be one of the best but stil Jack Lord is better. Martine Beswick plays the small role of Paula and Bernard Lee returns as M and Lois Maxwell as Moneypenny.
Thunderball's lot is pretty formulaic. SPECTRE highjacks some nuclear warheads and holds the world hostage for a hefty ransom. Bond is sent to the bahamas to investigate and find the missing nuclear warheads.
In conclusion Thunderball is an underrated 007 outing. The plot is fairly solid and the acting is very good. The villians are classic and the sets are wonderful. Bottom line: get this DVD! It is classic essential Bond! Highly recommended!

You Only Live Twice
ASIN: 6302380588
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: A Spectacular Bond, But ...
Comments: You Only Live Twice has many things going for it: Two good heroines, played by Akiko Wakabayashi and Mie Hama who are not only good looking (Hama, especially, looks great in a bikini), but can take care of themselves as well; a great title song and score by John Barry; tremendous stunt and action sequences (the helicopter dumping of the SPECTRE car into Tokyo Bay, the fight at the Kobe docks, the Little Nellie battle with the SPECTRE helicopters, the battle in the volcano, etc.); and, especially a great visual look courtesy of Ken Adam's spectacular sets (the volcano/rocket silo set alone should have earned Adam the Oscar for set design) and Freddie Young's cinematography.
There are, however, major problems with the film. Donald Pleasance as Blofeld and Tetsuro Tamba as Tiger Tanaka are woefully miscast in their roles. Blofeld in the books is a large man with silver hair and a magnetic presence. By contrast, Pleasance's Blofeld seems more like a petulant child who can't get his way (when he instructs one of his underlings to "Kill Bond ... NOW!", he sounds like a spoiled brat who wants his mother to buy him the latest toy at FAO Schwartz). Similarly, Tiger Tanaka, in the book You Only Live Twice, is a huge man the size of a sumo wrestler with a gregarious personality. Tamba, in contrast, looks like a bank clerk.
The screenplay by Roald Dahl is, at best, Bond Screenwriting 101 material. Dahl's dialogue makes cardboard cutouts of the characters and is completely overwhelmed by the spectacular stunt and set pieces. Unlike Richard Maibaum, Dahl is completely unable to flesh out the characters and make them seem real to the audience. He even gets the Bond martini wrong when he has Dikko Henderson (Charles Gray) state that it is "stirred ... not shaken."
In my opinion, however, the biggest weakness of You Only Live Twice is ... Sean Connery. I know that most Bond fans will consider this blasphemy, but this is not only Connery's weakest performance as Bond, it's his weakest performance in ANY film. Connery was originally signed to do a Bond film every year from 1962 to 1967. However, Connery became so disenchanted with both the time it took to film the movies and the direction of the series, Broccoli and Saltzman released him from his contract after Thunderball and signed him to a one picture deal, hoping that would convince him to stay on as James Bond after You Only Live Twice. Connery, however, was so disenchanted over being typecast as James Bond that he sleepwalked through the filming of You Only Live Twice. In the film, he is overweight, slow-moving, disinterested, uncharismatic and basically looks like an actor fulfilling the last picture of a contract. Connery's charm and appeal, for the only time in his career, are completely absent. During the Little Nellie fight with the SPECTRE helicopters, for example, he looks like he's about to fall asleep. Compare Connery's performance in YOLT with those in the other Bond films, The Man Who Would Be King, Robin and Marian, The Untouchables and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and it's easy to see that his heart wasn't into it and that he was sick of the role. Luckily for Bond fans, his performance in Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again were up to the usual Connery standard. However, Connery's performance in You Only Live Twice, plus the film's other weaknesses, relegate the film to the second tier of Bond films.

Timothy Dalton

Licence to Kill
ASIN:6304047843
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: A good close for the 80's decade
Comments: As other people have pointed out, "Licence To Kill" is perhaps the most grittiest Bond, but it is certaintly a positive quality. Instead of the days of far-out plots(remember "The Spy Who Loved Me" or "You Only Live Twice?"), here we have a plot that is all about Bond comitted to avenge his longtime friend, Felix Leiter. The villian, Franz Sanchez, has decent aims: he doesn't want to rule the world, he wants to be a successful, powerful, and rich drug lord. Fortunately, the part is played by Robert Davi, who plays the role excellently! The Bond girls here are better than the standard fare. Carey Lowell is suitable as the CIA operative Pam Bouvier, and Taliso Soto is beautiful as Franz' girlfriend, Lupe. And "Q" fortunately gets lots of playtime in this movie, more than the standard gadgets introduction.
People here praise the action scences of this film, and sadly, I must disagree. The previous film, "The Living Daylights," had more satisfying action scences. In LTK, we get 1)A helicopter chasing an airplace in the "Teaser" sequence 2) Bond fighting with guards in a marine facility[a short scene and wasn't as exciting as was expected] 3) Bond on an out of control airplane with badguys driving it[Actually, this is a good scence] 4) A brawl in a bar[Nice to try something new for a Bond film, but the actual scene was pretty lame nonetheless] 5) A semi-truck chase at the end[Praised by critics and viewers alike, but if disappointed me! Oh, a mere truck doing a wheelie to escape flames, and Bond attempting an unbelievable stunt doing a side-wheelie to aviod a missile]. As you can see, I feel the action scences could have been better, but they were acceptable and entertaining for the most part.
The part I really like is where Bond kills the villian Franz. I wont give it away, but I think it is the best villian death of all the Bond films. Bond sort of gets the appropriate revenge he deserved, something he didn't get for his wife who was killed by Blofeld in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."
Lastly, Timothy Dalton plays Bond for the second and unfortunately the last time. None of the other Bonds could have handled the gritty Bond that we see in this film, and Timothy did the best job. He was a great Bond. I wish he could have done more.
All in all, "Licence To Kill" is a very good Bond, and despite slightly lame action scences, this movie more than did it for me.

The Living Daylights
ASIN:6302380294
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: The Living Daylights
Comments: Timothy Dalton'd debut as OO7 in The Living Daylights is very different from his second film, License to Kill. The Living Daylights has a sophisticated plot with a diamonds for opium scheme involving a phony KGB defection and assasination operation. The villains this time around are the phony defector General Kuscov and the American arms dealer Brad Whitaker. The Bond girl is a cellist named Kara. The movie drags on too long and the script is weak. The action is limited and when there was action it was short, the only exception is a great fight toward the end where the Afghan rebels attack the Soviet air base.Dalton carries the picture. In License to Kill the plot is okay but the action and stunts are spectacular and long.A-ha's title song had a catchy tune and is quite good. The score was great. If you want a OO7 film that has suspense, a great plot, and good acting, check out The Living Daylights. If you want a Bond movie that has spectacular non-stop action, great girls, and humor try License to Kill.I did not like Caroline Bliss as Moneypenny.

George Lazenby

Our Price: $19.99

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Great Bond Movie!
Comments: I have seen all of the bond movies except for the latest one of 2002. I have decided that of all of them, On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of the best. Why? For one, George Lazenby, an Australian model and virtually an unknown did superbly as Bond. George is what Bond was close to being in manner as a great womanizer (check out his meeting the girls). Second, Diana Rigg of "Avengers" fame played the beautiful Tracy Draco! Thirdly, Telly Savalas played the best Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Fourthly, the plot was excellent as it was a true to life basic spy story with less the gadgets. Fifth, the mountain and snow/skiing and Swiss village scenes were breath taking especially if you had seen them at the movie theatre. Sixth, the battle scenes to rescue Tracy were excellent and especially the Bobsled chase was exquisite. Overall the whole movie was great and worth watching. This movie is also a rarity due to George Lazenby's solo Bond feature. I understand the present generation loves him very much as Bond. Your money is well spent on this Bond film. A must see Bond film!

Roger Moore

A View to a Kill
ASIN:6302510198
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: A View To a Kill
Comments: Roger Moore is back for his last appearance as James Bond in A View To a Kill. With some great action such as a thrilling hand-to-hand combat fight in which OO7 battles Zorin on top of the Golden Gate Bridge, a car chase through the streets of San Francisco, a chase on horses at Zorin's estate, a great pre-title ski chase, and a battle in a mine where MayDay and Bond must get a bomb out of a mine while escaping rushing water.Duran Duran's A View To a Kill was the biggest hit out of all the OO7 themes, though I like Live and Let Die better. The score was very good by John Barry.Though Moore and Roberts acting wasn't very good (especially Roberts), that is made up for by terrific acting performances from Grace Jones, Patrick McSteed, and especially Christopher Walken.Max Zorin is one of my favorite Bond villains along with Emilio Largo from Thunderball and Ernst Blofeld from Diamonds are Forever. The plot was cool too.The idea of destroying Silicon Valley is good. But if you want better Roger Moore, check out The Spy who Loved Me, (his best), Live and Let Die, or Octopussy.

For Your Eyes Only
ASIN:630251004X
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: More believable story than most Bond films
Comments: This isn't the best Bond film ever, but it's the best with Roger Moore by a longshot. Of course it has the usual gadgets and girls. I think what makes this a little different are the villians. The lead villian is a more believable charactor, being a double agent trying to sell some equipment to the Russians. He's not some multi-billionaire hell bent on world domination like most Bond villians. This movie also stands out as being a little different because for a little while, it keeps you guessing who the real villian is. Is it Topol or Julian Glover? Both actors play their roles very well, as does Roger Moore. The only complaint of mine is the opening pre-credit scene which was just plain stupid. BUT... at least during that scene he finally kills Bloefeld. The opening scene of For Your Eyes Only is the last time you ever hear from Bloefeld in the rest of the entire James Bond series. I just think that scene overall was poorly constructed. Once you get past that, the movie is great.

The first outing with Roger Moore as Ian Flemings James Bond-007. Live and Let Die has hardly any relation with the book in which it is based on. The Last thing I want to say(Well write really) is that I would rate this Movie as a 1000 out of 5.

The Man with the Golden Gun
ASIN: 6302510015
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Walther PPK vs. Golden Gun
Comments: Roger Moore once again returns as the suave agent 007 in Bond's 9th outing on the silver screen. I've read other reviews saying that it's the worst Bond of all. Well I'm tempted to disagree. I thought that this was an excellent movie with a moving plot and story-line. The movie starts out when MI6 headquarters receieves a golden bullet with the number 007 on it, sent to them courtesy of Scaramanga's girlfriend. This means that 007 is Scaramanga's next target to kill, so it's up to James Bond to find Scaramanga and figure out what is all behind this.
"The Man With The Golden Gun" includes some documentaries that look interesting. That is the nice thing I enjoy about DVD format, all the extras included in all of the movies. I can't wait to see the trailers and of course, the documentary entitled "Inside 'The Man With The Golden Gun.'" The thing I found dissatisfying is the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.66:1. I've never heard anything such as that, so I'm guessing it's going to be close to the formatted screen. It will be close, but we will soon find out.
This is Roger Moore's second stab at James Bond, as he seems to fit into the role much easier and much nicer. I felt in "Live and Let Die," he was a little uptight, due to the fact that he was relieving Sean Connery. Here, has found his portrayal of 007 and fills the role nicely. I enjoyed this movie very much and can't wait to see it on DVD.

Moonraker
ASIN: 6302510031
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Definitely the most underrated Bond
Comments: The fact that Moonraker remains one of the most unpopular Bond movies is a real travesty. Moonraker is a brilliantly conceived attempt to bring 007 into the sci-fi world, i.e. the one realm he hasn't yet conquered: space. The film glides smoothly from one action sequence to another, connected by a solid plotline and truly exotic locations. The casting is well spot-on: Roger Moore(my favourite) as Bond, Michael Lonsdale as the demented Hugo Drax, Lois Chiles plays astronaut/CIA agent Holly Goodhead with distinction, and Corinne Clery is excellent as Drax's aide Corinne Dufour - who helps Bond when he visits Drax Industries, but sadly pays the ultimate price for it. Moonraker also features one of the most sinister plots in the series: Drax plans to wipe out the world's population with an ultra-deadly nerve gas dispersed from outer space, and then replace it with his own "master" race. Of course it sounds insane, but insane storylines like this are what keeps the Bond franchise going. The use of light-hearted humour also reaches its peak here, and it connects brilliantly with Moore's style of acting. Personally, I think that Moonraker should be given its rightful place in the Bond Hall of Fame. A supreme 007 adventure.

Octopussy
ASIN: 630251018X
Our Price: $9.94

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Bond's On An Island Of Beautiful Women in "Octopussy"
Comments: "Octopussy" is the thirteenth entry of the James Bond series produced by Cubby Broccoli and it marks the sixth appearance of Roger Moore as the British secret agent. John Glen returns to the series to make his second of four directorial efforts in this film. The title of this film is taken from an Ian Fleming short story which is actually told by the title character to James Bond in the film. Only one part of the film, the auction, is based on Fleming's work, in this case the short story "Property of a Lady". The rest of the screenplay was conceived and written by longtime Bond associates, Richard Maibaum and Michael Wilson.
The story begins with the discovery of a fake Fabrege Easter egg in East Berlin. Its genuine counterpart is about to be auctioned off in London and M, head of MI6, is worried that this is part of a Soviet operation to raise hard currency. Bond is assigned to attend the auction and report what he can see. What starts out as a simple assignment quickly becomes more involved. Bond first encounters Kamal Khan, a disposessed Afghan prince and apparent jewelry fence. As Bond follows Kamal back to his home in India, he finds that Kamal is involved with a female jewel smuggler known only as Octopussy. But behind them both is Soviet General Orlov and his plans involve more than just selling off jewels from the state archives. Bond must find out what Orlov is up to and stop him.
The cast of characters in "Octopussy" is as wide and varied as ever seen in a Bond. Bond is opposed not by one but two master villians. Actor Louis Jourdan portrays the smooth but deadly Kamal Khan and Steven Berkoff nearly steals the show as the maniacal General Orlov. Kamal's henchman Golinda, played by Kabir Bedi, is a worthy successor to the likes of Red Grant and Oddjob. David and Tony Meyer nicely round out the villians as the twin killers, Mischa and Grischa. Kristina Wayborn makes good impression as Magda although she comes off as a little stiff in a couple of her earlier scenes. The film's title character is played by Maud Adams, whose performance as the smart but sensuous businesswoman Octopussy is quite excellent. The regular cast of characters are here as well with Robert Brown debuting as "M" and with Lois Maxwell and Desmond Llewelyn reprising their roles of Miss Moneypenny and "Q". Bond's trusty sidekick in India is played by newcomer Vijay Amritraj.
The screenplay to its credit maintains a strong storyline, no mean feat considering the number of characters and the number of fights and chase scenes. The scenes where Bond is racing to prevent the fulfillment of General Orlov's plans are both amusing and suspenseful, worthy of comparison to films like Goldfinger. The final assault of Kamal's palace is a bit weak but the ensuring fight between Gobinda and Bond on the outside of a twin-engine aircraft is first-rate.
The MGM Special Edition DVD of "Octopussy" has, like most of the other DVDs, an excellent widescreen print. The DVD also contains a couple of interesting documentaries, an audio commentary track, and many other goodies. As with any movie presenting in a widescreen format, this DVD is best seen on a large-screen TV.
"Octopussy" is one of those few Bond movies, especially in the Roger Moore's era, that seem to blend all the elements, exotic locations, colorful villians, spectacular physical action, suspenseful plot, into a masterful whole. If not the best of his individual performances, "Octopussy" is certainly the most entertaining of the Roger Moore Bonds. It is a shame that he was persuaded to do another Bond, this effort would have been a great swan song for Roger Moore. This DVD is a must for any Bond fan's collection.

Documentaries and Boxed Sets

The James Bond Story
ASIN: B00004R61D
Our Price: $9.98

Customer's Rating: 3
Summary: A great documentary... not as good as the 1987 one...
Comments: I can tell you this...if you're a Bond fan, see this...you will thoroughly love it. Interviews with all 5 Bonds, great clips from all 19 films, Q, the girls, villains, and a whole lot more. It's a fun-filled hour or so for us Bond-maniacs. I saw it on AMC one night earlier this year and am glad it made it to video and DVD. My only complaint: the 1987 Happy Anniversary 007 was more entertaining than this one. This documentary was more educational and told the history of the series more than the greatest moments. This also seemed to be rushed a bit more than the previous documentary. The one from 1987 was hosted by Roger Moore. It would have been nice to see the host of this program instead of hearing Miranda Richardson's very droll voice.

Spies, Sleuths and Private Eyes
ASIN:630491346X
Our Price: $19.95

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Rare trailers and production shorts from classic spy films
Comments: This enjoyable video features dozens of rarely seen original trailers, t.v. spots and production shorts from classic spy movies and t.v. shows including James Bond, Man From UNCLE, Matt Helm, Our Man Flint, Shaft, and many others. There are also a number of "campy" spy spoofs from the 1960's such as "Operation Kid Brother" and "Spy in Your Eye". Best of all is an extended behind the scenes look at the Harry Palmer film "Billion Dollar Brain" with Michael Caine, a "Get Smart" toothpaste commercial, a 007 Colgate cologne ad from 1965, and many other rarities. Overall quality is good, as the video was transferred from 16mm and 35mm masters and recorded in the SP mode.

The James Bond Collection
ASIN:B00000K2SO
Our Price: $76.99

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Very good set -- despite some flaws
Comments: About half of the reviews I've read here at amazon.com have complained that MGM seems to have selected the movies for this set at random. I must disagree with this. They obviously wanted a variety of films, so they chose from across the board. They went with two of the most popular Sean Connery vehicles ("Goldfinger" and "Thunderball"), Roger Moore's first ("Live and Let Die") and his most widely acclaimed ("For Your Eyes Only"), Timothy Dalton's better outing ("License to Kill") and Pierce Brosnan's two films: "Goldneye" and "Tomorrow Never Dies." (They excluded the recently released "The World Is Not Enough" for obvious reasons.) Although I must admit that I would rather own a set that had gone in chronological order and contained all 6 Connery outings and George Lazenby's very good (though underrated) "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," I am very happy with the set that MGM did come up with. "Goldfinger" is the best of the Bond flicks, and I truly enjoy "Thunderball," "For Your Eyes Only," and "Goldeneye." (I haven't yet seen "Live and Let Die.") I can't figure out why "Goldeneye" has received so much criticism while it's greatly inferior, semi-plotless predecessor ("Tomorrow Never Dies") is hailed as the best Brosnan film. In any case, other than "TND," this is a great set. Buy it and get the others that follow. Sean Connery enthusiasts should be pleased to learn that the final set contains three of his films, including "From Russia with Love." Enjoy this set, and many thanks to MGM for putting it out there for us.

The James Bond Collection Volume 2
ASIN: B00004RG68
Our Price: $41.96

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Buy this one last!
Comments: If you don't already own the other two sets of Bond DVDs, get those ones first. While this is not a bad collection, the other two (especially the first) feature some of the best ones in the series. All this one has to offer is "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "The Spy Who Loved Me". The other offerings are pretty meek from there. "Dr. No" is an okay film, but it lacks in the action and gadgetry that makes the series what it is. "The Man With the Golden Gun" is a personal favorite of mine but be cautious with this one. Some DVDs of this title are defective. "Moonraker" is one of the worst Bond films ever. It amazes me that they saddled us with 3 Roger Moore films in a 5 disc set. We definitely should have gotten "From Russia with Love" or "You Only Live Twice" with this one, instead of "Moonraker". All in all though the best reasons to watch these are the special features. The documentaries and audio commentaries reveal facts that have never been told and the trailers and radio/television spots are great to watch. The menu screens are beautifully animated and stand out from all other DVDs available right now.

James Bond 007 Collection Volume 3
ASIN:B00004W9C7
Our Price: $43.96

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Worth your money.
Comments: Since the first DVD Collection put in the "must have" Bond films and the second wave yucked it up with mostly Roger Moore, it was a given that this one would be a great set. And what a set it is! -"From Russia With Love": In my opinion, the best you could ever get. Beautiful scenery, beautiful women, great villains, and the memorable gypsy camp and train fight scenes. Connery is at his best with this one. -"You Only Live Twice": A personal favorite of mine. This one takes Bond to Japan. Although Connery's acting shows his growing distest for the role, the film has it's moments. Blofeld is finally seen, Helga Brandt is a great villainess, and the volcano lair is a classic. -"Diamonds Are Forever": Connery's last film is a far cry from his previous five, but it isn't all that bad. It's over the top but doesn't cross the line like Roger Moore did a few times. -"Octopussy": One of Roger Moore's best. The settings are great, Kristina Waybourn as Magda is one of the best Bond girls, and Maud Adams proves she is always welcome as a Bond girl. The film has it's moments though when I'm reminded exactly why I dislike Roger Moore so much. -"A View to a Kill": This is as bad as it gets. At 57 years old Roger Moore decides he should do one last film. The plot is weak, the main Bond girl (Tanya Roberts as Stacey Sutton) is drab and stupid, and most of the dialouge is stupid. The best part is the villains. Christopher Walkin and Grace Jones make for excellent baddies. Moore still should've retired after "For Your Eyes Only" though. -"The Living Daylights": Timothy Dalton makes a welcome debut as James Bond in this one. After many, many years of Roger Moore's goofball antics, Dalton's hard-edged approach to playing Bond was very welcome. The film ranks as one of the best and is not one to be missed. The DVDs themselves once again feature great special features and menu screens. Definitely check out the "Octopussy" and "Living Daylights" DVDs to see screen tests of Bond hopefuls James Brolin and Sam Neill.

Excellent movie to top off your James Bond collection and who better to play the role of Ian Flemming than the son of one of most well loved Bonds of them all Sean Connery. Jason Connery is superb.
